Seller Description

For sale is my 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i Coupe. The car is in excellent shape, and is ready to go for the new owner. I just purchased this car the first week of August 2015, and I am only selling it now because I already had an '02 M Roadster, and shortly after I bought this 3.0i coupe, I found a low mileage M Coupe of the same color, which I also purchased and have decided to restore. I also just picked up an older E36 M3 for a daily driver. Add to that my Jeep and three motorcycles... well something's gotta give. Honestly though, this Z3 Coupe is the nicest one out of all 4 BMWs I have right now. I'd really love to be one of those guys who never sells cars, and only adds to the collection, but I just don't have the garage space for all of them! Oh yea that, and my wife only lets me have 3 BMWs at any one time ;)

Here are some highlights and points of interest:

The color is Oxford Green Metallic II, over E36 Sand Beige, and was ordered with the Fine Wood trim option. This was a fairly rare color combination, as you can see from the VIN lookup provided on this site (1 of 10 car). As you may already know, the Z3 coupes were actually produced in fewer numbers than the M Coupes of the same year range (1999-2002); I believe almost 800 units fewer. They both share the same E36/8 chassis designation and body panels, so you get the same nice wide haunches and unique look as the ///M variant. That's what drew me to these cars in the first place...a great rear 3/4 view.

Being a late production Z3, it has the M sport style steering wheel (but without the  tri-color stitching). I have a very nice E38 wood steering wheel that I sourced from Estonia, and I am in the process of having it machined and converted to fit this E36 Z3. it is nearly a perfect match to the rest of the wood in the car and is slightly larger than the M sport wheel. Once completed, I will have about $650 invested in this piece. I may offer it as a part of the purchase of the car depending on our agreement and your desires.

Up until this past August, this was a one owner car from Denver Colorado, and I purchased it directly from him. He told me that he had wandered onto the BMW lot back in 2001 and never knew the Z3 coupe even existed. He bought the car on the spot. Please view the previous listing for some more background on the previous owner and his son.

I have the original window sticker, two full sized alarm keys, the grey key and the black plastic wallet key.

This is a 5 speed manual transmission car, and the clutch is very strong with no signs of any slippage or wear. The ZF transmission shifts very solidly, although it could benefit from a shift pin service at some point. As you may know, this is a fairly common issue with the manual cars, making it difficult to engage reverse or 5th, and often the shift lever will not return to center on its own. This transmission only seems to suffer from difficulty engaging reverse, but all three of my Z cars do this, and I've now become used to ways of the ZF!

Factory electric pop-up glass sunroof. I've installed a nice aftermarket sun blocker piece, which is fully removable and velcroed in place.

The wheels are the OEM BBS Style 42 type and are in great shape. No major curb rash, but there is some minor metal corrosion where the centers meet the outer lip. The tires are fine for now, but they are all of different state of wear, as they did not replace all 4 tires at the same time (again, please see the previous listing).

The car was purchased with about 82800 miles on it. It currently has 84595. I've only put less than 2000 miles on the car since August, 900+ of which were on the drive home from Colorado to Arizona. It was a fun trip, and the car performed flawlessly.

This car has the largest highest horsepower engine they put in a non ///M Z-car, the M54B30, which is only a few horsepower shy of the famous S52B32 found in the first gen USA market M Roadsters and M Coupes. Since also have an S52 powered M Coupe, I can confidently say, that this 3.0 coupe is 95% the performer of the S52 M Coupe in the speed department, and has a much more practical feel overall and lighter clutch. From a street driving standpoint, the 3.0i is not as high strung, and manages day to day traffic with relative ease as compared to the M Coupe.

There are no leaks or engine issues, and it runs smooth as silk, not a hiccup. The only item I have fixed related to the mechanicals is the power steering clamp on the low pressure hose. As usual, the factory clamps loosen, and many a perfect hose has been replaced for no good reason. I removed the hose and fully inspected it, cleaned it, and reinstalled it with new stainless Oetiker clamps. No more weeping.

This Coupe came equipped with the 'famous' CD43 radio deck. No CD changer, but it does have the Harmon Kardon subwoofer. I wouldn't enter any audio contests with this car, but it gets the job done. I have the radio 'theft code' as well.

Maintenance is up to date from the previous owner, and all the green lights are still showing from their last oil change. The P.O.'s son had installed new rotors and EBC redstuff brake-pads, in the hopes his father would join him for some auto-cross, but they never ended up taking the car to the track. I have a front strut bar for the car as well, but I have removed it, as I prefer complete engine access over chassis rigidity. It is yours if you want it with the car.

I received the car with a loose rear exhaust mount (another common Z3 ailment), to which somebody used pop rivets to try to correct. By the time I got to it, there was only two loose rivets holding it on. I have replaced all of the rivets with stainless steel bolts and lock-nuts, even adding one more. This exhaust mount will *never* have another problem.

The leather interior on this car is fantastic, and hardly shows its age. There's just a slight bit of cracking on the driver's bolster as usual, but overall, the sand beige leather is stunning. I have recently cleaned and conditioned the leather with high-end products. The glove box does not sag, and the heavy steel knee plate has been removed as a preventative measure.

Last weekend, I had a professional detailer come to the house and perform a mild paint correction on the car, along with a full clean and wax. He spent almost 7 hours on the car, fixing some water spotting on the hood, rub marks on the fender (from the P.O. walking past the car in the garage), and various other light scratches etc. I must say that after he was done with the car, I had serious reservations about selling it! His work truly transformed the car, and I can't wait for him to come back and do my M Coupe, M Roadster and M3. Overall the paint on this Coupe is in great shape, with only some minor light dents and dings. The whole front of the car has a 3M clear bra, as well as the side mirrors. The worst dent is a vertical strike on the rear passenger fender arch. I've included some photos which clearly show the defect. I have not had my PDR guy over to look at it yet, so I don't know if it is easily fixed or not.

If there are any negatives about the car, they are related to an animal strike which happened some time in 2009. The Autocheck I got on the car did not report any accidents, and I didn't notice any issues when I picked up the car in Colorado. However, when I got home and had a chance to go over the car, I noticed there was some Oxford paint on the driver's shock tower, and the hood has the BMW OEM replacement hood sticker. I then contacted the previous owner, and he told me he was driving through Kansas at night when he struck a decent sized animal. All of the damage was cosmetic, and the repair work was done extremely well, with 100% OEM parts. Going by the excellent condition of the front end, it is my 'professional' opinion that the complete front bumper cover, both headlights, hood, and windshield have all been replaced with new parts. The 3M clear bra was applied immediately after the repairs, preserving the condition of the nose work. All other panels on the car are VIN matching and original.

I've taken hundreds of photos of the car, so if you need specific photos not included in the batch here, please contact me.

The car is currently located in Tucson, Arizona. I have a regular shipping guy that can help with transport also! Title is bank owned, but I have an excellent relationship with them, and I will guarantee a smooth transaction from my bank to yours. I am very easy to work with. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions- thanks!

I saw this coupe in person about a month ago when I got to stop and hangout with Joe while picking up the next project coupe. It looked great then, I can only imagine how good it looks now after a professional polish. Seeing his oxford green collection gave me a greater appreciation for the color as well. Joe bought this coupe directly from the original owner, so all the history is known which is a huge plus. I think the price is very fair for a well-sorted coupe in a good color combo.
