Bolt of lightning strikes world's tallest building, photographer captures stunning moment

Heavy rains and lightning lashed Dubai on Friday evening and continued till the weekend. The city, known for its plush shopping malls and state-of-the-art office buildings, turned gloomy in just a few hours before lighting strikes were reported from various areas.

One of the buildings to be struck by lightning on Friday was the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest. Lightning strikes are not the easiest phenomenon to capture on camera. One has to be ready with their camera minutes before and just hope their lens is good enough to capture the white blaze.

According to reports, Anjum used to spend nights camping outside the Burj Khalifa to take the perfect shot. His seven-year wait finally ended when the filmed the lightning strike atop the 2,720-feet tall skyscraper. "It was just as though God had planned this moment, the lightning hitting the iconic Burj Khalifa to kick-start my 2020," Anjum told Yahoo News.

Other city folks also captured the stunning moment from different angles.

National Center of Meteorology told Gulf News that residents of UE can expect rainfall and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wet weather is predicted for coastal and eastern parts of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain.

The amount of rainfall in the UAE has been the highest since 1996.
