Gary Barlow says he could make himself sick in just 30 seconds during bulimia battle and drank 19 coffees a day
The singer has given insight into the worst days of his illness in his new memoir, A Better Me
GARY Barlow has revealed he could make himself sick in just 30 seconds, at the height of his bulimia battle.
The Take That singer, 47, have given insight into his illness in his new memoir, and confessed to binging on gallons of Coke and almost twenty coffees a day during his worst days.
Speaking to Now magazine, the singer explained he started to pile on the pounds after his second album flopped, and fans stopped clocking him as much in public.
He explained: "Not being recognised felt wonderful. The more weight I put on, the easier life became. Fat, I was invisible."
At the height of his illness, he revealed he would gorge on baked potatoes, pasta, sushi and cereal, as well as 19 cups of coffee and Coke a day, before popping a sleeping pill to "take the edge off" later on.
Gary would then purge in the toilet of his recording studio, in order to keep his struggles hidden from his wife Dawn and their children.
Admitting he had grown to "hate himself", he said of the tough time: "The first time I did it, it took me 15 minutes to get the job done - now it takes me 30 seconds.
"I'd go back to bed and lie awake... my heart racing, sore throat, worrying and overstimulated. I can never sleep after I've done it."
Gary has decided to open up now about his past struggles in A Better Me, his raw and honest autobiography.
The heartbreaking book also speaks about the loss of his daughter Poppy, who was stillborn at full-term back in 2012.

Speaking to The Sun last week, Gary revealed his grief caused him to have a nervous breakdown in LA in 2016, as he had thrown himself into too much work as a distraction.
He said: "After my wife and I had lost our baby, I as a man, I sort of went into overdrive.
"I just wanted to look after everybody, look after my wife. I was taking on work to sort of fill my life up with things to do really."
Gary is now back to his best after recovering from his struggles, and is preparing to celebrate Take That's 30th anniversary with a world tour next year.
