The 56-year-old said the injury also caused nerve damage which led to her suffering pain all over her body.

She said she was in pain daily for 18 months until having the surgery recently which has relieved her symptoms.

Speaking on Heart Radio, she said: "It's all that no good I'm up to with my right hand. My wounds look dramatic.

"It is from jumping around like a nutter and playing the guitar. I had torn the tendon off the bone.

"The highlight of my year was getting it done because I've not got the pain anymore.

"Even when I would touch my hair, my scalp, all the nerve damage that was done was insane.

"It was constant. I have been in pain for about a year and a half. There wasn't a day went by when I wasn't in pain.

"Already from having surgery, I've not got pins and needles in my leg and my hand constantly. It actually feels a lot better."

Sharleen was admitted to hospital in 2018 while touring with Texas after she injured three discs in her back.

She also ended up in A&E in 2013 after she fell while shooting a music video in Paris.

The frontwoman, who grew up in Glasgow and Balloch, near Dumbarton, is now recovering at home and is planning to go on tour with her band later this month.

She added: "At the end of January I'm going to New Zealand and Australia with Texas. It's going to be quite special.

"We're doing a Texas tour in Australia but we are also doing a big festival in New Zealand with Simple Minds."

Sharleen worked as a hairdresser at the Irvine Rusk salon in Glasgow before finding fame with Texas.

The band, who were formed in 1986, have had hits including Black Eyed Boy and Say What You Want and have sold more than 40 million records.
