Dali exhibit open at Newfields

INDIANAPOLIS — Salvador Dali’s mesmerizing works now adorn The Lume Indianapolis on Floor 4 of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields open now. “The Lume Indianapolis featuring Dali Alive” opened Saturday.

The Spanish artist is known for his surreal dreamscapes of melting clocks and fascinating creatures. Fluttering butterflies envelop guests who step into Dali’s wild and wonderful worlds.

Mystery and discovery abound. Let your imagination run wild in the renewed activity space titled “Let’s Get Surreal.” Artificial intelligence transforms your written word into a two-dimensional masterpiece.

The exhibition showcases four large, vibrant watercolor paintings by Dali from the IMA’s permanent collection. The paintings were originally designed for the opera, “The Spanish Lady and the Roman Cavalier.” The pieces are making their first collective museum appearance since 1979.

“The Lume Indianapolis featuring Dali Alive” features brand-new digital content in all three digital gallery spaces. Additionally, the new cafe concept, El Mercado Surreal, boasts a selection of Spanish-inspired small bites by Newfields’ culinary team. You’re able to daydream while you sip Spanish brews and refreshing cocktails.

Guests can enter nearly 30,000 square feet of the fascinating and mysterious world of Dali in this one-of-a-kind, multi-sensory, immersive experience. Like the first two iterations of The Lume Indianapolis at Newfields, this edition will feature nearly 120 floor-to-ceiling projectors, remaining the largest continuous exhibition in Newfields’ 140-year history.
