      Season 1 – T.J. Hooker

      1982 Crime Drama List
15% 20 Reviews Tomatometer It's Captain Kirk! Uh, actually, it's William Shatner as Sgt. T.J. Hooker. This time he's a former detective who demotes himself to street patrol, where he feels he is needed. Assigned to the Academy Precinct of the police department, Hooker teaches rookies. With rookies like Stacy Sheridan and Vince Romano, Capt. Kirk, er, Sgt. Hooker has a pretty good team on his hands. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Jun 04 Buy Now

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Chock full of clichés and off-putting in its regressive take on crimefighting, T.J. Hooker is a mean-spirited waste of William Shatner's charisma.

Julie R From the very first moment we meet TJ Hooker in the pilot episode we knew something special was happening as back in the day when it came to police shows we never got to witness the rookies in training whilst solving real cases. This is a show you can sit down and watch with your family and we got to see William Shatner as another iconic character onscreen other than those who were around in the 60s to watch him as Captain Kirk from Star Trek who he reunites with Leonard Nimoy who not only appears on screen but actually directs an episode of the show as well. For its day it dealt with hard hitting issues such as Drug Abuse, Rape, Violent Gang Culture, Alcohol addiction way before the shows of today. I much prefer to sit down and watch good old fashioned shows like TJ Hooker because people back then had talent and didn't need to change a perfectly good show to make it woke and destroy a legacy that was enjoyed by millions round the world. If you want to make social commentary create brand new characters and leave the already established and loved tv shows from the 1980s alone. Tom Shales Washington Post This one is so DOA, it makes doornails look frisky. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review John J. O'Connor New York Times In its own manipulating way, T.J. Hooker is a fascinating creation. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review Rayleene Harrison Sydney Morning Herald William Shatner (he had a friend with peculiar ears some years back) plays the part of T.J. Hooker and, given the circumstances, plays it well. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy T.J. Hooker rarely broke away from formula, and episodes from the later seasons became increasingly bland. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 3, 2021 Full Review Mark Wolf Charlotte Observer "I've seen the past, gentlemen, and it works." But T.J. Hooker doesn't. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review Karl Vick Tampa Bay Times About as low-down reprehensible as a series can be. Maybe that's to be expected from television's reigning mafia of the intellect: Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg... But the breadth of the vituperation here is truly wondrous.
