Description
Photo at top taken by NASA in 1976.
Bottom rendering is my Bryce version done back in 2002, as a message to my fellow earthlings who hope to go to the red planet.
In any event, the face on Mars is the image of several photographs of the Cydonia region of Mars taken in 1976 by the Viking Orbiter. The image is most likely of a natural formation but some people see a face or a building and are convinced that it was constructed by intelligent beings. Further pictures taken recently by more advanced satellites indicate strongly that it's a natural formation.
It would really raise eyebrows if the face at the top actually was constructed by a race of extraterrestrials tons of years ago. Only time will tell.

I think the image at the bottom would raise some eyebrows if they encountered it!
The original face on Mars was shown to be a natural formation with the higher resolution images from the MRO.
I have no doubt that there is life (possibly intelligent) out there somewhere. We may stumble upon it someday if we don't cause our own extinction first.
Great Bryce work, my friend!

I remember reading about the new photos of the face on mars. They were never able to reproduce the phenomenon.

I've seen that photo too---it really looks human, even though it's just nature and erosion at work. Your skull in the sand (or flat orange rock) is really funny. By itself, it's a striking and eerie image: In relation to the real rock formation, it's a great parody. More witty and fine work from this wonderful series of 3D pieces you did. And your colors in the skull version are vivid and powerful, as they are in a number of pieces in your 3D series...
(And you know what? Years back, Don Rickles---old crazy "Mr. Warmth"---did a print ad with his face in a carpet. I can't help but think of it, when I see your skull. Here's a google link: Look at the top line---you'll see Rickles sticking his head through an orange carpet. I'm not suggesting you ever saw this, or had it in mind; but I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing it. Here's the Rickles:
