Abies pinsapo is a rare, medium-size conifer that grows only in southern Spain and northern Morocco, usually on dry mountain slopes and it is considered endangered due to degradation of habitat, deforestation and fires. It develops a broad, conical, symmetrical crown to to 25 m tall of spirally arranged branches, short, stiff, very sharp needle-like, dark green leaves and upright cones which mature from greenish-pink to brown. Abies pinsapo is quite tolerant to heat and drought and will do well in temperate climates in USDA Zones 6 to 9. 'Glauca' is a cultivar with bluish foliage.
