Unique Features: There are confusing aspects with the Bosnian pine as far as name, in short P. heldreichii is the correct name. The Satellite is a cultivar, cultivated variety, of the Bosnian pine.  It was first found as a chance seedling growing in an arboretum in Holland around 1970.  It has since made its way to the U.S. The Satellite grows slightly slower than the species so it stays shorter and narrower longer than the species.  Since most Bosnians pines only last about 40 years under cultivation it’s not going to overpower your yard.  It also grows into a denser form than the species making it more suitable for screening. The regular Bosnian pine tends to be more open with age, especially in our semi-arid climate.  The Satellite is disease, heat and drought tolerant (suitable for water wise plantings.
