Identification & Behavior: ~44.5 cm (17.5 in). The Gray Tinamou is mostly gray with a fine wavy black bars. Most of the underparts are plain gray with the thighs and vent areas with blackish  bars. The neck and part of the head are whitish with fine dusky specks. It is similar, in shape and color structure to the Great Tinamou, which is a rufous-brown version of the Gray Tinamou.

Status: The Gray Tinamou is uncommon along the foothill of the Andes where it is known to range up to 1450 m of altitude. It favors hilly Terra Firme forest. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Perdiz Gris.

Sub-species: Gray Tinamou (Tinamus tao kleei) Tschudi, 1843.

Meaning of Name: Tinamus: Tinamu (Galibi) Cayenne Language. Native name for this type of bird. tao: Gr. Taos= peacock. Unknown reason to name this tinamou a peacock-like bird.
