Identification & Behavior: ~45 cm (18 in). The Marbled Godwit is mostly cinnamon with specks on the upperparts and faint dusky barring on the breast. The basic plumage is similar to the alternate plumage. It has a very long bill, which is pink with a dusky outer half. It is similar to the Hudsonian Godwit but is distinguished by having an overall warmer cinnamon coloration, cinnamon rump, and tail with dusky barring.

Status: The Marbled Godwit is a rare Boreal migrant largely restricted to the coastal region of Northwest Peru during the months of August through December. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Aguja Moteada.

Sub-species: Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa fedoa), Linnaeus 1758.

Meaning of Name: Limosa= L. limosus, limus = mud, muddy. fedoa: L. marble, marbled.
