Identification & Behavior: ~9.5 cm (3.7 in). The male Golden-headed Manakin is all black with a golden head and golden thighs. It has a white iris and yellow bill. The female is all green with a brown iris and yellowish bill and undertail coverts. It forages in the understory of Terra Firme forest. The female is similar to a female Red-headed Manakin but they range on opposite sides of the Amazon and Marañon Rivers. Hence their ranges do not overlap.

Status: The Golden-headed Manakin is uncommon largely on the north side of the Amazon and lower Marañon Rivers.  It ranges south of the middle Marañon River and south of the Huallaga River where it is known to range up to 1350 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.

Name in Spanish: Saltarín de Cabeza Dorada.

Sub-species: Golden-headed Manakin (Ceratopipra erythrocephala berlepschi), Ridgway, 1906.

Meaning of Name: Ceratopipra: Gr. keras, keratos= horn and pipra= small bird, never properly identified. erythrocephala: Gr. eruthros= red and kephale, kephalos= head, headed.
