Country singer Randy Travis gave new meaning to his hit song “Honky Tonk Moon” when he was found lying naked by the side of a road near Tioga, Texas on Tuesday night.

Travis was arrested shortly before midnight on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He suffered cuts and bruises when he crashed his car. (That’s more of an issue when you’re nude, I’m told.) Grayson County Sheriff’s troopers responded to a 911 call about a man lying in the roadway and found the country star in a vulnerable position. They smelled a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on Travis’ breath.

You’d think being found naked at midnight on a country road by Texas cops would be a humbling and sobering experience. But Travis showed some feistiness while being taken to jail. “He made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Travis refused to give blood or breath samples, so a search warrant was used to draw blood.

This isn’t Travis’ first handcuff rodeo. He was arrested in February for public intoxication when he was spotted carrying an open bottle of wine in front of a church. He told the police he’d just gotten into a fight with his girlfriend.

The next day he changed his tune in a statement.

“I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl. I’m committed to being responsible.”

Apparently not forever and ever.
