Supermarket chain Stop & Shop is reducing its statewide footprint.
The company closed its Paramus location on Jan. 13 and will shutter its store in the Dayton section of South Brunswick next month, a company spokeswoman told NJ Advance Media.
The Paramus store was located at 859 Route 17 S. The nearest Stop & Shop is in Ridgewood, less than 2 miles away.
”After a detailed review of the operating performance of our stores, we made the difficult decision to close our store located on Route 17 in Paramus,” Stefanie Shuman, external communications manager for Stop & Shop, said. “All store and pharmacy associates had the opportunity to transfer to other area Stop & Shop locations.”
The South Brunswick spot is at 24 Summerfield Blvd.
“Like Paramus, we made the difficult decision to not renew our lease,” Shuman said. “The pharmacy closed on Jan. 6 and the store will close on Feb. 24. We look forward to serving the community until then.”
There are currently 61 Stop & Shop stores in the Garden State and over 400 stores throughout New England, New Jersey and New York.
