The antics of the long-suffering servants in You Rang, M'Lord had us in stitches during the 90s.

For four seasons between 1990 and 1993 we watched the lives of the the posh Meldrum family household set in the 1920s.

The hilarious BBC sitcom reflected the differences between an upper-class family and their servants living in their London home.

Written by Dad's Army creators Jimmy Perry and David Croft, three main members of the cast were taken from their other hit show Hi-de-Hi!.

While many others would go on to star in their next series Oh, Doctor Bleeching! once You Rang came to an end in 1993.

Many of the stars were already incredibly famous beforehand and have stayed on our screens ever since, while there have also been some tragic deaths.

Here is a look at what happened to the You Rang, M'Lord cast once the show ended.

Paul Shane - Alf Stokes

Scheming butler Alf Stokes was always trying to scam the Meldrums out of their fortune.

In the opening scene we discover that he tried to rob Lord Meldrum's younger brother Teddy on the battlefield because he thought he was dead.

Realising he was alive, Alf and his rival James Twelvetress carried Teddy to a field hospital and saved his life.

Nine years later after his showbiz career has flopped and he's been sacked, Alf blackmailed his previous employers for a reference then used his connections with the Meldrums to get the butler job.

Much of the series revolved around his schemes to steal money from the family, which usually backfired, along with his secret daughter Ivy.

In real life, actor Paul Shane had been a coal miner before getting into acting and appearing in Coronation Street.

He played Ted Bovis in Hi-de-Hi! and was one of three actors who also got roles in You Rang.

Shane had his own show for one series, Very Big Very Soon, in which he played an actor's agent and also appeared in Oh Doctor Beeching!, Holby City, A Touch of Frost and Emmerdale.

He made a full recovery from heart surgery in 2009 but sadly passed away in 2013 aged 72 after a short period of ill-health.

Ivy was Alf's daughter, but the pair tried to keep their family connection a secret when he brought her into the household as the new maid.

She was passionately in love with her father's rival James Twelvetrees and was initially pursued by Teddy Meldrum in the first series.

Alf's naive daughter was often embroiled in his schemes and eventually confessed to Henry and then James that the butler was her dad.

Ivy was played by much-loved actress and singer Su Pollard, who was previously known for her role as chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw in Hi-de-Hi!.

As well as acting Su was an incredible singer and reached No. 2 in the Uk single charts with the hit 'Starting Together' in 1986.

Once the series came to and end she played Ethel Schumann in Oh, Doctor Bleeching! and has been a regular on the pantomime scene.

Also a stage star, Su is never off our screens these days as she also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011, Benidorm, Doctors and Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Pompous footman James Twelvetrees who also got his job by helping to save Teddy Meldrum's life.

After the death of the butler, Twelvetrees wanted to further his position so was furious when his old rival Alf got the role.

The two regularly clashed as James dreamed of replacing Alf as the butler, while looking down on the rest of the servants he worked with.

The footman often sided with his masters and was lusted over by many of the upper class ladies - with Poppy Meldrum and Lady Agatha arousing romantic interest as well as Ivy.

Before You Rang M'Lord?, actor Jeffrey Holland appeared in Crossroads and played Spike Dixon in Hi-de-Hi!.

He was one of three of the cast members who moved over to You Rang and then onto Oh, Doctor Bleeching!.

In 2011 he popped up in Coronation Street as Clive Drinkwater and two years later debuted his own one man played based on Stan Laurel.

Angela Scoular - Lady Agatha Shawcross

Lady Agatha Shawcross was Lord Meldrum's mistress and spent a lot of the series trying to hide their affair from her husband Sir Ralph Shawcross.

Although they were quite brazen as they would get together even when her husband was in the house by secretly slipping him sleeping pills.

Actress Angela Scoular is in an elite list of actors to have starred in two James Bond films - playing Buttercup in Casino Royale in 1967 and Ruby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service two years later.

She also appeared in Coronation Street, Wuthering Heights, The Avengers and As Time Goes By.

Tragically, Angela suffered depression and anorexia behind closed doors.

In March 2009 she revealed she had colon cancer and was declared cancer-free, but in the months before her death she reportedly feared it was going to return.

Angela died in April 2011 after ingesting acid drain cleaner and pouring it on her body, causing lethal burns to her digestive tract and skin.

An inquest at Westminster Coroner's Court in July 2011 ruled that she "killed herself while the balance of her mind was disturbed", and stated that her death was not suicide.

Perry Benson - Henry Livingstone

Abandoned as a baby, Henry Livingstone grew up in an orphanage before being taken into the Meldrum house aged 14.

The bootboy was the second-lowest ranking servant in the house but was one of the most intelligent characters.

Although his inappropriate jokes and lack of respect for expected etiquette often resulted in him getting a clip round the ear.

Perry Benson, who played Henry, made his acting debut in Grange Hill in 1978 and also had roles in Blackadder and Hi De Hi.

After five years in You Rang, M'Lord? he appeared in Oh, Doctor Bleeching! and Operation Good Guys.

Blanche Lipton was the Meldrum's cook who was very rarely seen anywhere but the kitchen.

An ongoing storyline throughout the series was a developing love affair with Alf and the pair were engaged.

However, she discovered it was all lies as he was faking the relationship just to borrow money from her.

Blanche lashed out by throwing dinner plates and crockery at Alf, then turned her attentions to PC Wilson.

Actress Brenda Cowling has appeared in many popular films, including as Mrs Viney The Railway Children, Mrs Bedwin in Oliver Twist and Schatzi in 183 James Bond flick Octopussy.

She also starred in Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served? and two Carry On films.

The actress retired in 2006 after suffering a stroke and sadly passed away in October 2010 at a retirement home in London aged 85.

Barbara New - Mabel Wheeler

The lowest-ranking servant in the Meldrum household, scullery maid Mabel was regarded as a bit of an outsider.

She didn't even live with the others in the house and because of her low social status wasn't even allowed to have meals with them.

Mabel was usually allowed to take some scraps of food back to her unemployed husband in the poor part of town, usually saying: "That'll be nice."

Mabel was played by Barbara New, who went on to appear as Vera Plumtree in every episode of Oh, Doctor Bleeching!.

She also had roles in The Two Ronnies, Bread and Z-Cars.

Younger audiences may recognise Barbara as Ali G's Nan in the 2002 comedy movie Ali G Indahouse.

The esteemed actress died in Paddington at the age of 87 in May 2010.

Bill Pertwee - PC Wilson

Police Constable Wilson was always popping round and rarely seen actually doing any work.

He had dinner with the servants every night in exchange for overlooking any bad behaviour from the Meldrum family.

This also made him a bit of a wine connoisseur as he loved taking a bottle from Lord Meldrum's cellar.

Actor Bill Pertwee was already a big star having played Warden Hodges in Dad's Army from 1968 to 1977.

Known for his character's catchphrase "put that light out", Bill was also featured on the Dad’s Army single 'Get Out And Get Under The Moon'.

He also appeared in two Carry On films, Carry On Loving and Carry On Girls, as well as Love Thy Neighbour and The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins.

Lord Meldrum was the master of the house and a respected member of the aristocracy.

He had built up considerable wealth while in charge of the Union Jack Rubber Company but paid his workers poorly.

Much of the series focused on his affair with Lady Agatha and attempts to cover it up so his reputation would not be damaged.

This often involved using Stokes the butler to get him out of a mess so Agatha's husband Sir Ralph Shawcross didn't find out.

Actor Donald Hewlett had already appeared in The Avenges, it Ain't Half Hot Mum and Doctor Who before joining the cast.

He also had roles in the films Carry On Behind and The First Great Train Robbery - with his last TV appearance coming in an episode of ITV sitcom The Upper Hand in 1995.
