Like most of the true Cedar family should be grown in a full sun exposure if possible to keep good foliage colour and overall density .

Slow-medium growing and rounded bun shaped cultivar . The needle foliage is a creamy-white colour and significantly intensifies to a brilliant white in new growth . Sometimes , when young , in unsuitable positions it can sun or wind burn so care in site selection is worth the effort . Staking of the central leader growth is not recommended or necessary as the plant will mound up naturally . Very showy when well grown .

The new needle foliage growth flushes on this cultivar emerge a bright golden-yellow and slowly fade back to the greenish base colour over several weeks . This family , known as the Yezo Spruce , comes from the Russian far east and northern Japan and therefore as its locale suggests would be very cold hardy . This cultivar has yellow-gold short needles on young growth and fades back to a greenish-brown when in dormancy . Red flowers (strobili) add to the attraction as this plant matures , into a bushy pyramidal shape . Best positioned in filtered light to avoid new foliage scorch .

An upright and neatly smallish pyramidal selection . The needle foliage is a disappointing greyish-blue rather than the bright blue often found in this family . Spring new growth more than overcomes the nondescript base colouring as it is a beautiful creamy-yellow and is displayed for many weeks . Siting in a full sun position is a mistake as the new growth will burn easily , so it needs positioning in a shaded but well lit area.

An impressive and beautiful selection of the Colorado Spruce . The needle foliage on this form is a yellow-gold colour rather than the normal blue that is usually seen on this family . The outline shape is pyramidal , neat and dense . New spring growth emerges green and stays this colour until summer when it turns to yellow-gold . The green spring growth negates the chance of sun scorch that some gold forms can suffer .
