Characteristics:
Habit
Slender, conical large tree, 25-35 (50) m tall; 4-6 (10) m wide; branches in layers, horizontal to arching upward, yellowish twigs, loosely hanging; strong-growing, 40-70 cm a year

Deciduous, needle-shaped, arranged in clusters; early shoots beginning of April, light green and slightly fragrant, later powerful green, bright yellow in autumn, November

Small, up to 4 cm long, ovoid, brown cones, remain several years on the tree

Cordate roots, very shallow on heavy soil where it is not well-anchored; tolerates covering with loose material
Demands
Sun, tolerates warmth, not growing fast in hot, dry areas, frost hardy; prefers breezy areas

Moderately dry to fresh; on all well-drained, somewhat nutritious substrates.

L. decidua tolerates cutting for hedging. The best time for this is after shooting in June.
