Where is the Fail Whale?

Where is the Fail Whale?

Several media outlets have been reporting that social media juggernaut Twitter has been having sporadic issues recently.

While we cannot confirm a hard outage with Twitter, we have been seeing some issues.  This message popped up while trying to login (I miss the fail whale).

Having a quick look we see that Twitter has been having performance issues over the past 24 hours.

When we investigate this further we start to see Connection issues with some specific hosts (abs.twitter.com and pbs.twitter.com).

Looking a little deeper and expanding the timeframe we see that the issue seems to stem from a specific IP address range (10.244.43.x) which is used by both abs.twitter.com and pbs.twitter.com.

We hope that the team at Twitter can respond to these issues and get things back up and running smoothly.  Twitter is an amazing communication tool used by 100’s of millions of people across the globe (including us), we hate to see services like this go down, but given the complexity of these applications it is not surprising when it happens.

Update: Dynatrace Outage Analyzer is showing the twimg.com is potentially impacting sites.  Sites are not crashing, but potentially being slowed down.
