Wonderful to see such promising initial results from our waxcap grassland turf translocation project. There have been very few attempts to translocate fungal communities of #conservation importance before, so hopefully our ongoing monitoring will confirm that technique is viable and can be applied successfully to other projects. #SwecoDifferenceMakers #innovation #biodiversity #ecology
Fungi!! I'm absolutely delighted that our turf translocation for waxcap grasslands has yielded fruiting waxcaps, specifically Hygrocybe cantharellus - goblet waxcap. The whole process is a huge experiment - we weren't (and still aren't!) sure what to expect. These turfs were only laid approximately five weeks ago, and are only one of the compensation measures being implemented. The road is long, and time will tell how our fungi assemblage handles the change in location and conditions; but the presence of a waxcap gives me hope that our mycelial network has survived at least partially intact, and gives me great hope for the future! Fingers crossed 30 years of monitoring only yields more and more positive results. Watch this space! 🎉 #ecology #swecouk #biodiversity #transformingsocietytogether

6moIt would be great to receive further updates on the success and failures (as these are just as important) of this process...I suspect mitigation for fungal communities will become increasingly prevalent over the coming years, great work 👍
