Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Tryngites subruficollis) at Loop Head, Co Clare, today. These birds breed in the high arctic tundra of Alaska and Canada and winter on the Pampas of northern Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. Occasionally, some young birds get carried on winds across the Atlantic to Ireland, where they feed and recover before continuing on their incredible migration.
