White Rust - Albugo candida
White Rust is often categorized as a fungus, but is in fact an oomycete. Oomycetes are fungus-like, eukaryotic microorganisms.
It infects Brassicaceae species and cause diseases (white blister rust). I spotted this rust on a plant in a rural garden.
''Albugo candida'' is a species from family Albuginaceae; however, all the other species in this family are called "white rust." Like other water moulds which are plant pathogens, it is sometimes called a fungus, but is in fact an Oomycete. ''Albugocandida candida'' is an obligate biotrophic oomycete that infects Brassicaceae species and cause diseases . At the genome level, ''Albugo candida'' has a relatively smaller genome than other oomycetes.
