  1. I love chat-tyrants, and I'd wanted to see this rare and localized endemic for a long time. The Abra Porculla is a classic site to see it, but there are never any guarantees with these small, inconspicuous flycatchers. We were also pressed by time that morning, which added to the stakes. Within a couple hours we had found most of the other targets at the site, but no sign of the chat-tyrant, which was proving completely impervious to playback. Until finally, while we were photographing some brushfinches, I noticed some movement further down the slope and jackpot: two of these beauties chasing each other! They never came in too close, and I ran this photo through three programs to reduce noise, enhace sharpness and increase the resolution of the image, in order to get something acceptable. The Piura chat-tyrant is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae. It is endemic to Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. It is threatened by habitat loss.
