Whiteworms
Observation - Whiteworms - UK and Ireland. Description: Took the camera with me when emptying the kitchen compost bin today and it turned into a bit of sess
Took the camera with me when emptying the kitchen compost bin today and it turned into a bit of session!
My oldest compost bin (it came with the house) had been attacked, possibly by a rat, on the door bit to access the compost at ground level, leaving a hole. I removed it and was distracted by the organisms on the back of the 'door'. Photo 3 shows a good variety excluding the compost worms, Eisenia fetida, which you've all seen before.
This observation concerns the long whiteworms only. They are annelids because they are segmented. I do not know yet what the other creatures are.
Dejay's recent observation here https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/836105/ has lovely detail in the photos and good links.
It is really only possible to identify the worms to Family (see dejay's information).
