Stewie Griffin
Perhaps the most well known of all Family Guy characters is none other than Stewart Gilligan Griffin, otherwise known as Stewie. Stewie is the baby of the Griffin clan, the youngest and brightest of the bunch. Stewie is voiced by creator Seth McFarlane.
No character has evolved more over the course of the program than Stewie, going from exploits of world domination to being casually snide to everyone he comes across. Possessing a superior intellect to anyone else in the family, Stewie began his character development obsessed with killing his mother, Lois, and taking over the world. As he grew older while never aging, Stewie lost interest in defeating “that vile woman,” taking a liking to his adventures with Brian Griffin, the family dog, instead.
The relationship between Brian and Stewie is complicated, which sees the two doing everything they can to do something awful to one another. At the end of the day, they admire one another for their strengths and weaknesses, just like good friends do. A common theme throughout the show features episodes comprised of the tandem’s adventures throughout the world, be it a trip to England, the North Pole, or just good ol’ Texas.
Creator Seth McFarlane has made it a public note that Stewie is, in fact, a homosexual character. Starting out as a flamboyant evildoer, Stewie has evolved as a character to give hints of how his sexuality will turn out as the show has went on. Stewie is seen as a seemingly clueless heterosexual virgin in one episode that predates the comments from McFarlane. Ditching the idea of a coming out episode, McFarlane “[…] decided it's better to keep it vague, which makes more sense because he's a 1-year-old. Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual.” [link]
