Tamás Deutsch articulated that it irks the European left that the Hungarian people consistently, through democratic elections, overwhelmingly support a nationalistic, sovereignist policy. He added that the European left seeks to forcefully override these decisions through political pressure.

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch told Hungarian public radio on Monday that significant efforts have been set in motion within the EU to ensure that Hungary does not gain access to even a single euro cent of European Union funds. Deutsch stated that Brussels is unlawfully impeding access to these resources.

He emphasized that the Hungarian government advocates for a negotiated solution, mentioning as an example the changes to the Hungarian judicial system that the Hungarian government has implemented. At the same time he underscored that there are ‘red lines’ that will not be crossed under any pressure.

These include combating illegal migration and putting a halt to the ‘ideological gender madness’.

Tamás Deutsch articulated that it irks the European left that the Hungarian people consistently and overwhelmingly support the government’s nationalistic, sovereigntist policy. He added that the European left seeks to forcefully override these decisions through political pressure.

The politician stated that it is a ‘complete revelation’ that Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, admitted in her speech last week that Hungary is denied the €20 billion in funds because it refuses to reject illegal migration and gender ideological frenzy. Deutsch reiterated that the Hungarian government has long been aware that this is the real reason, rather than alleged concerns about the rule of law in Hungary.

Brussels’ Rule of Law Concerns: A Mask for Hidden Agendas

Deutsch asserted that Western European politicians act as if those entering the European Union illegally in search of a better life are refugees. He argued for the need to defend the external borders of the Union due to the perennial terrorism threat, deteriorating public safety conditions, and the deaths of hundreds of European citizens due to the actions of illegal migrants or terrorists with a migration background. Simultaneously, he accused the European left of abusing its power to forcibly change people’s mindset, likening their behaviour to the power players of 20th-century dictatorships.

He proclaimed that a new era could begin in the life of Brussels bureaucracy from 9 June, the date of the European Parliament elections, onwards. ‘Those Brussels bureaucrats who build their power on political coercion should be ousted,’ he nailed down. The Fidesz MEP expressed optimism that a positive turn of events in the EU’s life during the summer could have beneficial effects on Hungary’s EU funds.

Regarding support for Ukraine, Deutsch stated that Hungary is not the only member country opposing funding from the seven-year EU budget. While this position is tacitly supported by numerous EU member states, Hungary is unique in openly advocating for it in public, he remarked.
