Larix decidua ‘Krejci’ new growth

I’ve had this plant since May of 1916 and it has done well, but this year the new growth caught my attention. All the branches have grown about a foot (which seems excessive) and every one of them carries only single needles. They all originate from the center of what was the branch’s terminal tuft of needles. Is this new growth ‘normal’ for the species? Will the ‘tufted’ growth develop along the branch as the plant matures? Should I prune - drastically?
