Seems unlikely. According to this description and others, 'Jane Kluis' is a squat globose pine with "acid green" needles and white buds.

This tree has about a 4" stem, which is ridiculous for the container it's in. I'll be planting it tomorrow, so hopefuly it doesn't quickly outgrow its new home. I kind of enjoy these mystery plants, but it can create a problem down the road if it turns out to be unsuitable for the chosen site. I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself since it may not survive winter.

If I where to guess I'd go Hornibrookiana or something in that neighborhood. Definitely not Jane Kluis.

im surprised you arent holding it over for fall planting ... but maybe its that z4 that lets you get away with that ... obviously you know what your doing..

Ha! You're being kind, but if I really knew what I was doing I would've known what I was buying. I could (should?) wait until fall, but I've planted pines all summer without too many issues. I am a bit worried to see what the roots are like and how that will all play out. And no, I didn't check the roots at the nursery...I was afraid of what I'd find.

After doing some reading on 'Jane Kluis', it may be best if the tree I've got is something else since it probably wouldn't be fully hardy up here. I didn't know this when I bought it, but according to ACS it was a deliberate cross of densiflora x thunbergii, which could be problematic since thunbergii will not survive our winters. Densiflora is a bit more cold hardy, but it would be a real stretch if it is crossed with Japanese Black Pine.
