I wish I could give you more information, but I all I can offer is agreement that it is a nice looking selection. Last week I was visiting Gerten's outside St Paul, MN, and this one caught my eye. On the other hand, I'm smitten with pretty much everything Pinus cembra. I planted P. cembra 'Big Blue' earlier this spring and I'm looking for more. I'll be replacing a sickly Ginkgo 'Autumn Gold' with a conifer, and it has come down to P. cembra 'Westerstede' or Picea omorika 'Sky Trails'. Where are you located?

Same here. I wish they were a little faster, but their slower growth is not all bad. I don't understand why people bother with the super common 'Vanderwolf's Pyramid' when there are so many nice cembra's out there. Just a great pine for the Midwest.

I don't have a mature one but I can share my experience.

I planted a Westerstede in a container on my front patio in the fall of 2012. It went through some tough winters and did great. So it definitely will take harsh environments.

I planted it in the garden this spring. I expected it to be root-bound but it was not bad at all.

I am also growing Algonquin Pillar, Klein, and Glauca that also do great.

It looks like all of your conifers are doing well.

I'm so glad to have the great pics and success stories for northern gardens, thank you! I bought one for my sister and am going back to get mine tomorrow. (She's in MN and I'm in WI...I found it at Ivy Trails in Green Bay, in case anyone else is interested...and they also had lovely Algonquins.) The cembras are addictive, I think. Too bad more nurseries don't carry them, I would think they'd sell very well. Mary
