Golden forms of Thuja occ. Smaragd

Thuja occ. Filips Magic moment (Patented)

Thuja occ. Janed gold (patented)

Thuja occ. Smaragd gold

I have these three plants planted in containers, they are situated on east-south .Photos were taken three days ago.

It appears that Thuja occ. Filips Magic moment has the best coloration. Magic moment can be planted instead of Platycladus orientalis Aurea nana in colder zones. It has nice shape and coloration.

    I couldn't say it in a better way ;0)
B.t.w it's 'Filips Magic Moment', not 'Filips Magic moment'.

I encounter small, pure yellow branch sports on this overplanted cultivar rather often. At least one yellow-and-green form has been seen on the market here.

Every 1 out of 1.000 'Smaragd' will make a variegated branch, which is very common.
Pure yellow branch mutations can not be propagated successfull because of a lack of chlorophyl.
Golden forms with some chlorophyl are very rare, let me tell you that!

    Edwin,

How many cuttings are clipped from how many stock plants, each year? How many years has that plant been in production?

Thanks Edwin...by the way did your Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Pina Colada' survive in the end ?

Mirek, I've seen all Polish golden 'Smaragd' forms at Janusz garden which do all look the same, some nice golden in Summer but an ugly dull color in Winter.
You can compare the 'Jantar' with the 'Janed Gold' and the 'Smaragd Gold'
The 'Filips Magic Moment' does have a nice color all year which is a golden yellow in Summer and a orange yellow in Winter.

Stephen, your 'Pina Colada' is still doing fine.
Some day soon I'll find a nice place for it in my garden ;0)

I think that Thuja occ. Jantar and Thuja occ. Malonyana aurea are the same plant.

    Maria, certainly not .
Edwin, everyone emphasizes their good points, but 'Filips Magic Moment' pretty in the winter.

When I compare the Polish selections I see that these look all the same.
My 'Filips Magic Moment' grows much slower then the others and also it's color is differend, specialy in Winter.
The problem here is that there's a patent on the 'Janed Gold'.
How can the patent holder controle which is which one?

Also Thuja occ. 'Jantar' is patented ,but accordind to me ,it is Thuja occ. Malonyana aurea .

Excuse me, of Szewczyk indeed 'Marianna', of Wnuk 'Maria'
And on my foto 'Jantar'. 10 years. The first plants.
    I know, what I have.
I know about the registration. But I am propagating it for 10 years .

Mirek, could you be more clear about the 'Marianna' and the 'Wnuk Maria', origin, finders?

If 'Janed Gold' and 'Jantar' do look to same then it's not possible that both have a patent.
These plants will be checked at a research station and if plants are looking the same the first one which is registered will get a patent...

I think that the 'Marianna' is a cultivar name combination of his wife (Maria) and youngest daughther (Anna).

look for Thuja Janed Gold from Kubik (PL) http://www.krzewykubik.pl/index.html

Marianna is not the same name what Maria, its other name.
    Greetings from Poland !
