I have a bunch of his conifers.
    Picea glauca 'Dent'
    Picea glauca 'Fort Anne'
I think Pinus strobus 'Horsford Dwarf' was his.
A few years ago I met him at his nursery. He sold me Picea with 'Montgomery' grafted on top with 'Pendula' as a side graft on the same plant. I got a bunch more from him, gonna check my files.

    Picea abies 'Mill Creek Broom'
    Picea abies 'Perry's Golden'
    Picea glauca 'Cecilia'
    Picea pungens 'St. Mary's broom'
    Pinus strobus 'Kurley # 2'
    Pinus strobus 'Louie'
I propably have more. Greg I have to assume has introduced hundreds of conifers.

    Clement, Kevin,

Are you ready to start the Greg Williams gallery?
As we made not long ago with Nate, Dax, Will, Henk, Clement, (sprucebud) GBR, Stephen GBR

I will get the photo portion of this party started. A couple of images of Picea pungens 'St. Mary's Broom'. In the background is Pinus strobus 'Greg' Which I believe is either found by or named after Greg Williams.

    Many thanks Friends,

let's make the Greg William Life Monument together. To have an idea, how looks this, just send a mail to get how the Jerry Morris file stands. I'm really pleased to work on a great breeder's sortiment. We can start an open edited file, where you get back where the editing works.

Is anybody of you to contact with Greg? He is the only one, who can tell us, how his findings realized?

Wow, I wish the best to Greg and us

He also selected some brooms on Larix laricina. I think I still have some in my parents' garden in Ohio. I will check my notes - perhaps 'Bear Pond' was one of them??

    Literature cited from:

Fincham, Robert L. - Coenosium Gardens ‘Catalog of Rare Plants For The Discriminating Person’; Catalog Number(s) Fourteen thru Twenty (2003-2009).

Abies balsamea Walcott Pond : found in Vermont by Greg Williams, this dense, dark green, globose selection grows 1"-2" per year (zone 3)

Picea abies Dan's Dwarf : This miniature plant came from Greg Williams and has been growing in our garden for ten years. It has become a squat, conical, dnsely branched little bush that grows about 1" per year (zone 3)

Picea glauca KNB Variegated : A tree with light green foliage that is extensively variegated with white areas throughout (zone 2)

Picea rubens 'KBN Variegated' : A tree with yellow variegation throughout its foliage that was found by Greg Williams in Vermont (Zone 5)

Pinus sylvestris Kate Brook Gold : A slow-growing tree with bright yellow foliage where it is exposed to the sun and dark green foliage in the shaded portions. The bicolored effect is very distinctive and results in a very attractive plant. It grows 6"-9" per year (zone 2)

? Picea abies Vermont Gold ? Guessing

? Abies nordmanniana Hunnewell Broom ? Guessing

Also found by Greg Williams from an email conversation with Dennis Dodge:
    Pinus strobus Stowe Pillar

    Thats nice!

I made a first quick-sight list for Greg's plants. Its full of hypertext links - built in Henk's photos too - so if anyone is interested in, just mail me, and I send it.

Generelly some of Greg's plants are widely known, as the beautiful Louie for me too. He made a very impressive conifer world with characteristic selections.

    Dax,
Abies nordmanniana 'KBNG W.B.' does have several synonyms like: 'Broom H', W.B. Hunnewell' and 'Hunnewell Broom'
    {{gwi:701169}}

Abies balsamea 'Walcott Pond' must be written as 'Wolcott Pond.

Picea abies 'Vermont Gold' is indeed a Greg Williams introduction.
He found this one as a yellow sport on a Picea abies 'Repens'
The first name given to this plant was 'Repens Aurea' but this name was illegitimate.

    Pinus strobus 'Stowe Pillar'

This one was also be found by Greg Williams:
    Abies balsamea '94018'

    Edwin,
Abies balsamea 94018 was listed at Betlehem Nursery USA, as 'WB 94018'.
I listed earlier two balsamea dwarfs as 94078 without origin of Holata, Kohout and Burdan. These all could be a mistake of 94018.

We also have a 961018 selection, listed at Holata and Kohout.

It seems everything is ready to a confusion...

    Hi Clément,

    Dax,
Kevin is possibly right in the Reed's Pit theme

    We have now:

Pinus strobus ’Reed's Pit’ reported by Cadys Falls Nurs. CT

At me in the Conifer Treasury 3.0:

    Reed’s Point Hort.
listed at 2010 Gee Farms Nursery MI USA, earlier at Stanley & Sons Nurs. Inc. Boring, OR USA

Pinus strobus ’Reed's Pit’ Cady's description:
‘Reed’s Pit’ " A handsome round bush with long, soft, twisted needles and short tuffets on the ends of the
branches. A Greg Williams discovery from a gravel pit in Wolcott, Vt. 6 in per yr." Cady’s Falls Nursery USA

"a gravel pit" - key word

Cady has credit at me, we have to ask Gary, what he has as Reeds Point. Dax, could you ask him?

We tought a short journey with short list earlier. Greg is now 12 pages meanwhile totally unfinished. I like you guys.

    Hi Zsolt,

I've tried in the past and no
    answers to questions were ever
    returned.

Same will go for Chris Trautmann -
    as I mailed a hand-written letter
after I emailed him, with no responses.

Same will also go for Rich and Susan Eyre.
(I told in an email recently to 'conifering friend' that I went to the nursery and was given the golden book of every plant there, but with no accreditation(s))

I ask many questions to Dennis Dodge and usually
    there isn't much response.

A lot of these people it is possible that they are becoming tired, Zsolt.

I do add my Best Regards, however...

    Zsolt,
Caddy Falls Nursery is in VT(Vermont) not CT. im sure just a typo.
When I visited him, I remember his house was on a hill, His house was tall with a coupla(how ever spelled) on top.
All four sides of the where tall windows. Inside the coupla was a telescope and I was told that he uses it during the winter to search for variegated/golden conifers in the forest that surrounds his home.
I also remember him showing me a picea pungens in his nursery with the whitest sport on it. I have never in my years of collecting have seen anything this white on a conifer. So white that it makes Ts. can 'Betty Rose' look like a joke even though 'Betty Rose' is a great conifer.

People such as the ACS, here Zsolt. Just in the recent ACS Bulletin there was an excerpt about willing "belongings" to the ACS.

You need to understand that when people say no, that's it. End of discussion.

Whaas, he sure did. I was admiring his collection and adding a couple to my 'want list'. I would be interested to know how he came about these cultivars. Do most people get them from witches brooms?

I need to go on a hunt for some interesting witches brooms around here.
