They may be the same plant in Europe, but they are not here. Pentaphylla Azuma grows at a much faster rate than I had anticipated and is more upright. The ACS database confuses the form. Azuma-Goyo is a tight, more horizontal and very blue form.
size estimates are at 10 years.. divide by 10 for annual growth rate ... or do what i did at the link ... second link suggests 6 inches per year on becoming established.. and that sounds about right on parv's across the board.. but reduced for variegation ...
you may 'see' that.. if you look closely at your plant.. from prior years growth.. though being potted and all.. maybe not ...
generally speaking ... most parv's are not xmas tree shaped.. they kinda do their own thing.. unless guided by you ...
i would refer you to the intro to conifers at the ACSoc but i am only allowed one link ... for a discussion of annual growth rates ...
i would also link you to a planting guide.. do you need that..
what is your native soil ... clay means things ...
a pic might help ID the thing.. never really know if tags are correct ... but the peeps here have keen eyes ... especially the joy-ful one ... as to cultivars ...
and finally.. bargain means its been sitting around all year.. do you know about root surgery.. and all that????
Baxz5oh - that's what I was thinking...while young, the habit of this thing is shrubby/horizontal. Reminds me of pinus pumila.
Ken - came from Hopper Bros in Oregon, good nursery. My native soil is a nice sandy loam - we are the "fruit bowl of the nation". W/ help from irrigation of course.
