Hi Steven, After checking you are partly right about the 'Bila Lotha' is was wrongly written by me. But 'Bila Lohta' is also wrong. The right written name must be 'Bila Lhota' I found this information in the conifer book "Promising Conifers" written by members of the assortment commite of the Dutch Conifer Society in which I take part of. Wiel Linssen did research for this one and found out how it must be written. This selection is found at the Bila Lhota Arboretum in Bila Lhota in Moravia, Czech Republic. Some other misspellings are 'Pila Loda' and 'Pila Lotha'.
Indead the 'Emerald Twister' is a very special selection. It's found by Pat Wells from Moscow, Idaho, U.S. It's also in the trade as 'Torquis', but this name has a patent (PP#7553).
I have another one with the same caracteristics under the name 'Serpentine'. I think it's from Germany. Pseudotsuga menziesii 'Serpentine'
There's a 3th one with these twisted growth with the name 'Leenderheide' which is a Dutch selection found in the wild nature at a heatherfield.
yes, you are right, 'Bila Lhota' I was in such a hurry to pick you up on a name spellcheck I couldn't even manage to copy the correct name from my own collection list. But! Stephen, not Steven :0)
Does anyone have Pseudotsuga menziesii `Fournier's Greenspire'? I got it from Stanley and Son. I planted a one gallon here in the Southeast and it hasn't croaked yet! I am very excited :) I can't find any pics of muture specimens. Thanks!
I can't believe this! These are native to my region and I have never come across ANY cv's in either the wholesalers or local garden centers (within 50 miles)!
Because they aren't "exotic" maybe? Or... maybe because locals know how big they grow?? Wow anyways, quite impressive stuff. I love the glaucas, all forms.
A lot of these plants are probably unavailable in the U.S. - grown and kept in the U.K. and other parts of Europe. I suspect we have similar doug. cultivars that aren't over there as well.
Yeah Dirtslinger it's unbelievable, go tell the wholesalers and gardencenters to surch for these gems! These belong in the gardens in your neighbourhood.
