    Awesome stuff!

    Just one addition this year:
Picea pungens 'Sunshine' (The last plant at Coenosium Gardens, and it's a terrific color combination of blue-green with golden yellow.)

Boy does this thread have monster potential. I'll add to the carnage, especially since I am like the 5th poster, I am highly free of spam guilt! :)

Picea pungens 'Green Globe' - Moderate shade so stands a good chance of having some issues. Time will tell.

'Lutea' - Posting this only to show what a lack of sunshine can sometimes do to conifers. The beautiful golden glow normally associated with this plant is gone and it has some spindly spots as well.

'Montana Ave.' - Another good example of lack of sunshine, this broom is normally very tight and blue/green. In moderate shade, it defoliated some inner needles and is very green.

'Victor' - Ditto. New color's nice, older foliage leaving.

'Karina' - Curiously RIGHT NEXT to 'Victor' and seems fine. I think eventually most of my Picea pungens in moderate shade will be OK, especially as I raise the canopy around them instead of it hovering directly over them. It will be a very interesting experiment at least and with grafting friends far and wide, I will be able to keep these cultivars around in some form or another, even if the part-shade approach fails.

'The Blues' - Moderate to HEAVY shade. I'll love it one day when this is sculptured over the hostas.

'Lucretia' - Seems like a wide pyramid, a little older then the ones above.

'Fat Mac' - A block of green so far.

'Spring Ghost' - A white flushing variety(maybe gold in sun), this is in moderate shade and still colors up - and this might prevent the nickname it was given to me by Jason Hupp, 'Spring Ghost - Summer Toast' for it's propensity to burn in hot sun.

Bumped with a few more cultivars. Hopefully some others lurking here show some of their cool Picea pungens.

Girard's Aurea' - This name is probably illegitamate so it should probably be called 'Girard's Golden'. Colors up nicely with the sun, whenever that may be.

    'Emerald Cushion'

'Blue Fingers' - a Conifer Kingdom plant.

'The Blues' - One of the best.

    -Will

'Colonial Gold' - Gets big with age which means this little specimen is just 'heeled in' for a few years.

Love the P.p 'Mseno' Edwin, I'd like to see that as it grows...

Picea pungens 'Millcreek Broom' confirmed now as a green and silver/blue bicolour, green new growth.

I really like the Picea pungens 'Mseno'. What will the growth rate and shape of that plant? Where can I get one?????????????

  • monkeytreeboy15

I too found the 'Mseno' very pleasing. I am afraid this one isn't available in America, is it?

I really like that bi-colored one also. It is very unique.

Rispetto is showing the 'Oregon Cream' as 3th name for what is originally the 'Spring Blast'.
Another name for the smae plant is 'Spring Yellow'...

'Egiptian Pyramid' must be written as 'Egyptian Piramid'.

Sam and Ingeborg, unfortunately the 'Mseno' isn't availlable in the U.S. yet, it's only availlable in Europe at this moment...

Simoni, thanks for the pics of the original brooms, I really enjoy such a pics very much!

Will, the 'Blue Fingers' isn't a Picea pungens cultivar, but a cultivar of Picea engelmannii.
Please hit the link and watch all the pics, then you'll see what I mean...

Thank you Clement, corrections made. Picea pungens 'Kutjevo'.

    Picea pungens 'Blaukissen'

Picea pungens 'Blue Pearl' - I prefer 'Blaukissen' but still a beautiful, tight plant.

Not known for sure, probably 'Glauca Globosa' on standard.

    'Wisconsin Cream'

Ditto, showing more color because it's in full sun.

'Shiloh Weeping' - Prostrate so far but not 'strongly' weeping imo.

'Glauca Procumbens' - Staked originally and now slowly spreading/weeping.

'Sweet Roll' - Interesting look to this small plant.

    'Hillside Dwarf'

'Split Rock' - A new planting.

'Blue Pearl' About ten years old now and a glorious little thing.

'Blue Mist' - Seems somewhat upright and dwarf.

I want to stop on out and take that 'Straw' with me!

'Globosa' This one tends to keep a nice blue on previous year growth as well.
