Each year between late May and early July, fields of violets, poppies, daffodils, and more blossom in the Italian village of Castelluccio. Known as la fioritura, this annual flowering creates a stunning polychromatic visual across the plateau of Castelluccio di Norcia in the Umbria region of the country.

"Everything is entrusted to the climate of the season," the village's website writes of the annual phenomenon, noting that there is no way to predict the exact timing of this spectacle. While the flower species are countless, most commonly identified blooms are gentianellas, daffodils, violets, poppies, buttercups, daffodils, purple eugeniae, clovers, and shamrocks.

This year's bloom may be coming to an end, but not without delivering an enchanting mosaic of color. Take a look at these breathtaking photos visitors to the plateau took!
