Q:I live in MN and during the winter I notice that many folks cover their arborvitaes with burlap to protect from the snow and bitter winds. Is this recommended or how can a person prevent the brown foliage in the spring?
        by|Apr 18, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  All arbs will experience bronzing during the cold temperatures of winter. Once the spring warmth arrives, they revert to their lush green foliage quickly. Burlap will provide wind protection. Happy gardening!

          Answer This Question

A:  Hello there Katie. Thank you for your question. Yes, as long as the ground is thawed enough to dig your hole twice as wide and deep as the pot, you can plant these at any time of the year. Happy Gardening!

            They’re all that is promised
The plants in the 3-gallon pots were delivered in boxes; all were safe and in perfect condition, even though shipped on their sides! They are four feet tall and full, not scraggly. Price was great on sale. Though delivery took longer than expected (by a few days), I have no complaints.

Plant Description is False - Will have to return
When I placed my order, and as of March 21, 2023, the Home Depot website says the Emerald Green Arborvitae are a Zone 3. The tag says they are hardy to -20, which is a Zone 5 (see photos). I will have to return. Plants looked healthy other than 80% of my order had tip burn. I will buy from Home Depot again because I am usually happy with my purchases. If the web description had been correct I wouldn't need to go through the hassle of returning the plants. One star because of misrepresentation.

Beautiful Emerald-Green (Thuja Occidentalas) Arborvitae Evergreen 'Smaragd'
This Beautiful Emerald-Green (Thuja Occidentalis) Arborvitae Shrub in a Three Gallon pot. Got this plant via FedEx delivery. The delivery arrived a bit later than expected due to damage and replacement during transit from Bell Nursery USA LLC in New Jersey to my home in Ohio. The plant is very healthy, and shrink wrapped over the damp soil, and around it pot. Just planted it in my yard today, and it looks Great!

                  Simply beautiful
We absolutely love our Arborvitae collection and are very happy to add this 3 gallon Arborvitae to the group. Besides being beautiful plants they provide a very nice wind block and they add additional privacy to our home. In the winter they are gorgeous to view when everything else is dormant and barren and they also are a natural snow fence helping to keep our driveway more free of snow and easier to keep clean. You just can’t go wrong with these shrubs

                  Good size.
This plant arrived in good condition It took about 5 days to receive it. Seems like a healthy plant. I have had it in the ground for about 15 days so time will tell. Since I have received it, there have been a couple of brown spots on some of the foliage but hopefully that was just some stress from shipping. We had some really hot dry weather around the time I planted it so that didn't help either.

Very Healthy Plants from Bell Nurseryt
I have become a loyal customer for Bell Nursery and for having plants shipped directly to my home. The ease of having plants shipped and then to be receiving such beautiful and healthy plants from Bell Nursery I am sold. This Emerald Green Arborvitae is a good two feet for a three gallon. I am waiting for a landscaper to dig out my dead one before I replant this arborvitae.

                  Beautiful shrub
I just received this shipment of the Bell Nursery 3 gallon Emerald Green Arborvitae shrub. It was packed exceptionally well. Not a crumb of planter mix was spilled. The soil was cool and damp, so I waited one day to give a full watering. It has a beautiful shape and I plan to repot it in a decorative planter pot, then place it next to my front door entryway to improve curb appeal, and to hide the electric panel unfortunately located by front door. I could not be happier with this shrub. Exactly what I needed and will withstand cold weather here in the northwest.

                  It's a beautiful tree
I was amazed and pleased that it arrived in excellent condition and looking green, healthy and full. It came at a height of about 18 to 20 inches not including the root and pot. It weighs about five pounds or so. It comes with simple instructions and it's easy to move around and plant. I've seen these as porch trees as well but I planted it according to instructions. It definitely has changed the look and appearance of the front yard very much.

                  Excellent Stock
I recently received this and was very pleased that it arrived in excellent condition with all the leaves green, not wiling. This is a 3 gallon plant so has a good start. An arborvitae is an evergreen plant so will not shed its leaves in the winter. They make excellent windbreaks and add color to your yard all year long. This would also make a great hedge if you planted a row along a fence line.
