BAMBINO® is another beautiful dwarf hybrid pine, following success of its forerunners Marie Brégeon and BREPO®. It has medium to dark green, 3-4 cm long needles that recall those of pinus mugo. The plant naturally forms symmetrical, mounding shrubs which need no trimming whatsoever, and grows very slowly - only about 5 cm per year. It will look great as a small lawn specimen, or a perfect piece in a Japanese garden or a large rockery surrounded by stones, white sand or pebbles. It can also be grown in a large outdoor container.
Pine trees need full sun and well-drained soil that will not be too alkaline. No fertilizing required. Pruning is possible in late winter or late summer, never cut into branches which lack needles. You can shape the tree by removing or trimming "candles" - young new shoots before they develop proper-size needles. It is hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
