Himalayan pine is a tree that many pine growers would love to have in their garden, however, its mature size will not allow growing it in small gardens. That was probably the reason why in 1983 a new selection called Densa (or Densa Hill recently) was introduced and immediately gained much attention and popularity.

Densa Hill is a dwarf variety of Himalayan pine with incredibly long silvery-blue needles. They are borne in bundles of 5 and just a little shorter than on the species, erect when young and drooping as they mature. Even young plants produce attractive, grey-green, slim cones covered in a lot of resin.

The shape of Densa Hill is rather slender and maximum height reaches about 6. With growth rate of 20-25 cm per year you can expect maturity in 20-30 years. It likes warmth so avoid frost pockets and windy locations. It will thrive in well-drained but semi-moist soil that is light and sandy. Using fertilizers will result in too long, unhealthy looking twigs. Hardy to about -27°C (USDA zone 5).
