A lot of things have probably changed for you in the past 10 years, but be real: Can you even touch Miley Cyrus levels of then versus now? The juggernaut that was Hannah Montana entered into the world a full decade ago today, introducing us to the spunky daughter of a country star (Miley was just 13!). Since then, the singer has experienced the sort of life stuff we all go through—puberty, falling in love, and feeling loss. There was some only-in-Hollywood type stuff too, including plenty of experimentation and a rocky relationship involving a sizable diamond and a hunky Australian movie star. Suffice it to say, today's Miley is much different than Disney Channel Miley.
To celebrate the Montana-versary and highlight just how much its star has changed, we're contrasting some of her more recent pics with snaps taken during 2006, the show's first year in existence.
The singer still loves rainbows and brights, but things have gotten a bit more dramatic lately. For a recent session on The Voice she picked boldly striped pants and a top with a three-dimensional heart. At the CMAs in Nashville 10 years ago, it was more standard red-carpet fare, with a strapless gown down in vivid layers of color.
Vintage Miley liked your run-of-the-mill floral print done in relatively demure black and silver. Current Miley dresses up as an actual flower, complete with green pumps to mimic stems.
With show business in her blood, it's no surprise that Miley's always been down for a little bit of razzle-dazzle sparkle. Since her early shine, things have gotten even bolder. A festive tank worn to a VH1 event in '06 was replaced by a full-on glitter tux at a concert to celebrate World AIDS Day.
The Hannah Montana-era Miley was all about an angelic white dress that looked romantic and stolen straight from the '20s with dainty deco accents. Modern Miley still likes the same DNA, but has to make it bolder. Knee-high socks and double buns, anyone?
Here's a two-for-one. As a young teen, Miley did the popular layered leggings thing (another look we'd like to forget we ever wore), and recent outfit snaps show she's still not over the look, rocking a lavender pair of tights under lime green overalls when out shopping. Also in her current closet? Boldly printed leggings.
