Kohleria hirsuta or Isoloma is an evergreen, perennial subshrub with very attractive dark olive green, hairy leaves that have a reddish tinge to the edges.
The flowers are tubular, hairy and brilliant orange to red in colour with a speckled throat and appear most of the year-round.
Best grown in a glasshouse or in pots indoors - they can also be grown outdoors in warmer parts of Australia.
Photos seen here were shot in Sydney Botanic Gardens, so they clearly do well in NSW.
