Arsenal were humiliated by Belarusian minnows BATE Borisov – as Piers Morgan fumed at the “insanity” of the defeat.

Club legend Martin Keown blasted the Gunners flops and claimed the 1-0 Europa League defeat was their worst performance under Unai Emery.

The Gunners put TEN past BATE over two group games last season, scoring four away and six at home.

But they couldn’t muster one this time and their shaky defence was breached when Maksim Skavysh netted just before-half time.

Things got worse five minutes from time when Emery’s side were reduced to ten men as Alexandre Lacazette got his marching orders for an elbow on Aleksandar Filipovic.

Good Morning Britain presenter Morgan tweeted: “Who the f*** are ‘BATE Borisov’... and how the f*** have we just lost to them? What IS this insanity?”

Old defensive warhorse Keown was fuming in BT Sport’s studio. He said: “That is the worst performance I can remember.

“Certainly under Unai Emery the worst performance we would have seen.

“Arsenal didn’t have the penetration in their play. There was sloppiness. You could blame the pitch but that’s a poor excuse.

“You’ve got to be better than that if you’re an Arsenal team. There were so many stray passes, that’s concentration, being in the right place mentally. That’s a very disappointing performance.”

Keown, who won three Premier League titles and three FA Cups, launched another scathing attack moments after BATE had taken the lead just seconds before the break.

The 43-cap former England international said: “It doesn’t seem to be in the personality of the players to actually be determined enough to not be beaten.

“’Who wants the ball more?’ That needs to be part of your DNA at Arsenal and it’s not been evident enough.

“It’s about wanting to keep a clean sheet. They’ve lost four of their last six away games in the Premier League. There is a defensive problem and there has been for years.”

Keown and Morgan were not the only ones mocking the loss...
