A selection of a witches'-broom found at the Spring Grove Arboretum in Cincinnati, OH. Growth is very slow and it is an extremely dwarf form, forming a short, broom-like specimen with a somewhat globose to bun shape with little lateral branching, consisting instead of shortened, spur-like appendages. Ginkgo biloba 'Jehosephat' is a dwarf, upright, tree form of Chinese maidenhair tree, otherwise known as Ginkgo. This plant has very short and stubby branches with green leaves set out horizontally in a rosette look. They are of typical size for the species with good yellow fall color. After 10 years of growth a mature specimen will measure 2 feet (60 cm) tall and wide, suggesting an annual growth rate of 2 to 3 inches (5 - 7.5 cm).
This cultivar originated as a witch's broom discovered in the late 1990s at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. It is one of several brooms found there and numbered for the location they were found.
 
Origin:
This particular broom was provisionally named 'Spring Grove' #86 until Rich Larson registered it as Ginkgo biloba 'Jehosophat' with the Royal Horticultural Society.
