Four months ago, Juan Pedro Franco was the most obese man in the world.

The Mexican man tipped the scales at an astounding 93st.

Today, he has lost 27st ahead of what will be life-changing gastric bypass surgery for Juan.

This weight loss came from a strict diet – after being admitted to hospital where he was found to weighed half a tonne.

Before this, the 32-year-old was bedridden for six years due to his size.

Yesterday Juan arrived at the hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico ahead of his gastric bypass surgery which will take place on May 9.

Only now can he have the surgery as doctors said when he was first admitted his obesity and other ailments including diabetes made the gastric band impossible.

His doctor, Jose Antonio Castaneda Cruz, said: "He has lot nearly 30% of his initial weight, so he is ready to undergo the bariatric surgery."

Juan has appealed for other morbidly obese people to see medical help. He said they need, “to raise their voice and ask for help since it is possible.”

He added: “Some have passed away perhaps from sadness, or because they don't dare to ask for help."

According to the Mayo Clinic, gastric bypass is considered a major surgery and can pose potential health risks which include excessive bleeding, infection, blood clots, lung or breathing problems and in some cases, death.

Nikki Webster, a woman who before her gastric bypass surgery weighed 46st, had complications with her surgery which included internal bleeding. This was fixed, however her friend Michael passed away from the surgery.

The surgery has been a success for the world’s fattest woman, Egyptian Eman Ahmed who once weighed 78st.

After her gastric bypass surgery, she left the hospital on May 4 weighing 26st – an incredible 50st down.
