A 'hangry' tourist confronted a shop owner after she spent £6 pounds (7 euros) on a sandwich that turned out to be a tiny - BITESIZED panini.

The tourist was in Italy's Naples when she stopped off at the sandwich shop after a day of hiking up Mount Vesuvius.

Emily McDonald, 23, was on the eighth day of a tour of Italy with her university.

The University of Toronto Master's student was travelling with the Earth Science Department for the trip.

After returning back to her accommodation, she opened up the sandwich box, only to find a tiny bitesized panini.

Emily, from Toronto, Canada, took to social media to express her frustration and vent her anger.

She said: "After a long day of hiking Vesuvius and seeing Pompeii, I and my group headed back to this shady apartment we were renting, desperate for dinner.

"We went to the closest restaurant to us, which also happened to be one of the only places open.

"It was this cute and seemingly small takeout place.

"They didn't really speak English, and their menus weren't up to date, but it smelled great and the food on the menu looked cheap and tasty.

"I tried ordering the few things on the menu that were vegan, with the panini being a 'vegetarian-exception' that I added on last-minute because I was REALLY hungry and it sounded great.

"After we placed our order, I left the group to walk the two minutes back to our apartment because I had to use the bathroom.

"When the rest of the team got to the apartment with our food, one person asked, 'Did you not get anything?' Because they picked up this last box that felt empty, and that's when I discovered the panino."

After filming the video, Emily eventually calmed down, but was still hungry.

So, she decided to go back to the restaurant to confront them and find out what had happened.

Emily said: "We were so flabbergasted and laughing hysterically at the panino that I decided to film the reaction to post on my TikTok for a good laugh.

"After, my friends were like, 'So... are you actually going to eat that?', which is what made me consider going back and asking what had happened.

"We got there and I asked the one guy about my food, which he confirmed saying it was the 'panino' that I ordered, which then led me to ask about the size and the cost.

"There was a language barrier and that's why three more guys showed up to see what was going on.

"In the end, they tried to explain that that was indeed the menu item and they were a Michelin restaurant - which is why it was so small and pricey.

"Finally, the chef went into what I later realized was the full-on restaurant, and brought out that massive sandwich!

"They were nice about it upon parting ways!"

The footage was captured on May 8th.
