Chicago Code fans left disappointed as Fox axes show after just one season
It is bad news for fans of television show The Chicago Code today.
Fox Network have cancelled the crime series after just one season.
The drama, which stars Jennifer Beals, the 47-year-old actress best known for the Eighties film classic, Flashdance, had several devoted fans who have been left bitterly disappointed with the axing.
Yesterday, creator and producer of the show Shawn Ryan took to Twitter to explain the decision.
It's over: Fox Network have cancelled The Chicago Code, starring Jennifer Beals, pictured, after just one season
'Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run,' he wrote.
The 44-year-old, who also created hit crime series The Shield, which aired between 2002-2008, also thanked viewers and fans of the show for their support.
He also revealed that the two final episodes of the show will air in the next two Mondays, adding that the finale will be 'satisfying'.
According to HitFix's Alan Sepinwall, the show's ratings had 'never been especially strong'.
The Chicago Code follows officers of the Chicago Police Department as they fight crime on the Windy City streets and try to expose political corruption.
The main character is Veteran Chicago Police Detective Jarek Wysocki (played by Australia actor Jason Clarke), who leads the special unit fighting against the corruption.
Sad: The show has a legion of loyal fans
Jennifer Beals plays his boss Teresa Colvin, the newly appointed first-female Chicago Police Superintendent and Wysocki's one time partner.
Also in the unit is Caleb Evers, played by Friday Night Light's star Matt Lauria, a young detective and Wysocki's latest partner.
Today, the Chicago Sun-Times described the hit show in a positive light.
'More than most series made on Chicago’s streets, 'The Chicago Code' attempted to capture the culture of the city, dropping references to local history and filming in areas both prominent and obscure,' it read.
Strong ties: Veteran Chicago Police Detective Jarek Wysocki, played by Jason Clarke, and Beals's character Teresa Colvin, have a close relationship in the crime drama
'Its main characters — a roguish cop (Jason Clarke), his book-smart partner (Matt Lauria), a powerful alderman (Delroy Lindo) and a reform-minded police chief (Jennifer Beals) — were ever aware of Chicago’s climate of corruption.'
The decision to cancel the show is also thought to be in order to make way for several other pilots Fox have in development.
They include a JJ Abram's produced drama, titled Alcatraz, The Finder, a spin-off of the hit series Bones, and also The New Girl, starring 500 Days Of Summer star Zooey Deschanel.
