'What he didn't do is a big wedding': Enrique Iglesias' older brother Julio baffles fans by suggesting the singer is already married to Anna Kournikova

Enrique Iglesias fans were put on red alert over the weekend after the singer's older brother suggested he has secretly married his long-term partner, the Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova.

Speaking to Spanish media over the weekend, Julio Iglesias, Jr, 50, left studio guests baffled after admitting their socialite mother Isabel Preysler has seen all of her children marry 'at least once.'

Talking to broadcaster Sonsoles Onega, Julio, Jr - appearing on her show after half-sister Tamara Falco's wedding on Sunday - offered a polite laugh when jokingly asked if Enrique and Anna's own ceremony had been 'small.'

He said: 'What he didn't do is a big wedding. He and Anna have been together for years and have three beautiful children.'

Acknowledging an apparent slip of the tongue, Onegao cut in, adding: 'Look, don't say it, because I'll put you in a compromising position.'

But when asked if 72-year old Preysler had seen each of her five children marry, he replied: 'At least once, yes.'

The statement came as a shock to fans as Enrique previously insisted he wasn't bothered about getting married.

When questioned about referring to Anna as his 'wife' in 2012, he clarified: 'It was just meant to be sweet in the moment. I honestly didn’t mean to confuse people. I thought it’d be easier for the audience to understand than if I said “my girl.”

'I’ve never really thought marriage would make a difference. Maybe it’s because I come from divorced parents, but I don’t think you love someone more because of a piece of paper.

'And nowadays, it’s not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you’re a good parent, period.'

Anna echoed his sentiments, telling Women's Health in 2011: '[Marriage] isn't important to me. I'm in a happy relationship – that's all that matters.

'I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely.'

When rumours swirled again that they'd tied the knot in 2018, Enrique told ITV's Lorraine Kelly: 'I mean, when you've been with someone for quite a while, the way I have, it's like being married. No, I'm not. I'd like to get married maybe in the future.'

Enrique embarked on a relationship with the now retired Russian tennis ace Anna, 42, in 2001 after she appeared in the promotional video for his single Escape, but has largely kept their relationship out of the public eye.

The couple currently share a home in Miami, where they raise three children - five-year old fraternal twins  and three-year old daughter, Mary.

Julio, Jr also admitted his younger brother did not attend Tamara's wedding at the picturesque El Rincón palace, some 40 miles outside of Madrid, because he doesn't enjoy public events.

Tamara Falco, 41, married Íñigo Onieva with 400 well-heeled guests at the chapel in the grounds of El Rincón palace.

Tamara, daughter of the late Carlos Falcó, 5th Marquess of Griñón, and his first wife the Spanish-Filipina socialite Isabel Preysler, is known as the 'most photographed woman in Spain'.

With the eyes of millions across Spain on them, Tamara and Íñigo enjoyed a weekend long celebration starting with a religious ceremony followed by a party and next-day brunch.

The couple met in 2020 at the party of a mutual friend Luis Bergel, they often share pictures of their lavish trips together as well as their idyllic home life going to many society parties through Spain.

Prior to becoming involved with Enrique, Anna was in a long-term relationship with professional ice hockey player Pavel Bure.

Rumours abounded about a potential marriage for the pair in the early 2000s, although neither of the two ever confirmed anything.

In 2017, the two announced that they had started a family after welcoming a pair of twins named Nicholas and Lucy.

The couple welcomed their youngest daughter, Mary, into their lives in January 2020.
