What are the 60th anniversary Doctor Who episodes about?

David Tennant is officially back as the Doctor to mark the 60th anniversary of the show which first aired on 23rd November 1963.

The 60th anniversary specials, which comprise of three episodes, were announced nearly two years ago with David Tennant confirmed to be retuning alongside Catherine Tate as Donna Noble in 2022.

While we don't know too much about the plot of the remaining episodes we do know the Doctor will be returning to Earth alongside Donna Noble, and a previous villain, The Toy Maker (Neil Patrick Harris) will be returning to cause havoc at some point in the series.

The first episode was the 'The Star Beast' and saw the Doctor and Donna reunite to defeat the Meep, who at first seemed like a harmless creature, but was actually intent on destroying the Earth. During the episode, Donna's memory was restored, along with all her knowledge of the Doctor, but thankfully it didn't destroy her as the Doctor predicted it would have, because Donna shared the knowledge with her daughter Rose.

The next episode is 'Wild Blue Yonder' and according to the official synopsis, this is what is happening in the episode: "An out-of-control Tardis takes the Doctor and Donna to the furthest edge of adventure."

The final episode in the 60th anniversary specials will be 'The Giggle' and see the Doctor face off against an old foe, The Toymaker, played by Neil Patrick Harris.

While appearing on BBC One's The One Show on 20th November, series creator and writer Russel T Davies has said it's not a three-part series but each episode is able to be watched individually and each episode has a very distinct feel.

"It's not three parts, you can watch each one separately," he said. "And they're all different. One is like a big family film, one's very scary and one's insanely scary."

Ok, we're really excited for this now.
