HOSPITALITYThe Dara Sakor of Cambodia has not only the one of few well-preserved original ecological environment in Southeast Asia but also Asia’s largest and world's second largest mangrove forest. The entire resort is placed in harmony with the environment, with the original vegetation being preserved as much as possible.
Three layer of space responds to three different properties of Angkor architecture. Climbing over the top of the mountain and passing through the woods, guests will arrive at the first space, a drop-off area, an ambulatory of monoliths evoking the stereochromic materiality. After entering the hotel, the water yard as the second space speaks to the tectonic and spatial effect of juxtaposing stone and wood. The third and final space, the open reception area with a vast seascape, reincarnates the lightness of wooden structure. Specifically, one would find the red sandstones and wood as the major component of the tectonic orchestra.
The crisscrossed swimming pools of different heights create a new vacation experience, in which guests can swim sideways to the edge and then swim straight toward the sea. The sculpture at the end of the pool is a woman looking quietly into the distance, while the boundless pool almost becomes a part of the sea.
The space of the guest room is organically integrated with the outdoor nature. The Valley SPA and Cliff Fitness and Yoga Space allow full relaxation, while the seaside restaurants and bars always offer a cozy immersion. The mountain-top temple and the art gallery also add a spiritual and artistic atmosphere to this primary forest.
The invisible atmosphere in space is the essence of our design inquiry, only materialized by tectonics, at the core of which are the concept , material, form, structure, details, with the understanding of nature, the consideration for daily activities and the revocation of local culture.
