Where are they now? The 2010 Philadelphia Union defenders

Jordan Harvey: Harvey was picked up by the Colorado Rapids in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft, where he spent the better part of three seasons (he did a loan stint with the Seattle Sounders, then in the USL). Harvey was selected by the Union in the 2009 Expansion Draft, and was the Union's first-choice at left back in 2010 where he had a goal and an assist in 2620 minutes. In 2011 he was unceremoniously traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps for Allocation Money. Since joining the Whitecaps, Harvey has solidified his place as one of the better left backs in MLS. This year, he eclipsed 100 starts for the Whitecaps, contributing seven goals and eight assists with the 'Caps.

Juan Diego Gonzalez: A fixture in his native Colombia as well as having experience in Mexico and Argentina, Gonzalez was brought on to the Union in September of 2010. He made seven appearances for the club in 2010, however since he had zero appearances in 2011 he is probably most infamously known for being one of the first high-dollar players on the Union who rarely played. He paved the way for such notables as Bakary Soumare, Freddy Adu's 2013 season, Kleberson, Porfirio Lopez, and Rais M'Bolhi.

Danny Califf: The club's first captain, Califf was the sixth pick in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy. Before coming to the Union, he had won a U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup with LA, had won two Gold Cups with the United States Men's National Team, and played five seasons in Denmark. He was instantly embraced by the Union fans for his work ethic and hard-nosed style of play. Califf was sent to Chivas USA in 2012 by then manager Peter Nowak, who was fired less than a month later. Califf spent half a season with Toronto FC, retiring in June of 2013 to become a scout for TFC. Since retiring, he founded DC Sports in his native Southern California.

Shavar Thomas: The Jamaican international was originally selected tenth overall in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by the Dallas Burn, and spent time with the Kansas City Wizards, LA Galaxy, and Chivas USA before being selected in the Expansion Draft by the Union. A serviceable defender, Thomas was traded back to Kansas City (before they underwent their rebrand to Sporting Kansas City) for two draft picks that turned into Ray Gaddis and Brian Carroll as well as Allocation Money. Thomas played internationally for Jamaica into 2012, captaining the Reggae Boyz on several occasions. He also played professionally with the Montreal Impact and Fort Lauderdale Strikers, where he ended his career in 2013. Thomas is currently coaching at St. Jago High in his native Jamaica.

Toni Stahl: One of the most infamous tenures in Union history, Stahl was a highly sought after prospect after playing college soccer with the University of Connecticut. Drafted by the Union, his MLS career lasted all of 41 minutes as he picked up a red card in the Union's first game and never saw the pitch again. He was sent to Harrisburg for the remainder of 2010, He was then released by the Union in the beginning of 2011 and spent the rest of his career in the NASL with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Carolina Railhawks. Stahl retired at the end of 2014 and now works in the insurance industry.

Michael Orozco: Perhaps the best known of all of the 2010 Union's defenders, Orozco had already had a decent career with Liga MX side San Luis and a brief stint with the United States Men's National Team when he was loaned to the Union. A solid center back, Orozco started 26 games for the Union and scored twice, however he returned to San Luis at the beginning of 2011 after Union manager Peter Nowak tried to pocket some of the transfer fees for Orozco. He played for San Luis through 2013 when he was loaned to Puebla. Orozco currently plays for Tijuana as well as being in the USMNT rotation since 2012 after scoring the lone goal for the Americans as they beat the Mexican National Team for the first time ever in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

David Myrie : Myrie was the guy you completely forgot about until he showed up on the Costa Rican team that made it to the Quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup.  Prior to coming to the Union, Myrie started his career in Spain with Cadiz and played with Puntarenas and Alajuelense in Costa Rica. He spent 2009 with the Chicago Fire but didn't play with them and only played in the inaugural game for the Union in 2010. After that he headed back to Costa Rica, having stints with Limon and Uruguay (as well as a brief period with Norwegian club Fredrikstad) before joining giants Herediano in 2013 where he's remained since. Myrie also was subbed on in Costa Rica's 0-0 draw with the Netherlands, which the Dutch won in penalties to advance to the semifinals.

Sheanon Williams: Williams had played with the Carolina Dynamo for two seasons before coming to the Harrisburg City Islanders in 2010. There he was noticed by the Union and signed to the first team in August of 2010. He solidified the right back spot in 2011, starting 32 of 34 games and held on to the position until 2015, when he was traded to the Houston Dynamo. Williams was the longest-tenured member of the Union and is second in games played and minutes played behind Sebastien Le Toux.

Cristian Arrieta: Arrieta had played for 10 years in Italy's lower divisions before coming to the USL's Puerto Rico Islanders in 2008. He won USL Defender of the year in 2008 and 2009 before being picked up by the Union in 2010. Arrieta had a disastrous run with the Union, playing in only 16 games - however he did pave the way for the Union to replace him with Sheanon Williams. He was released in early 2011 and spent a season with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers before disappearing off of the landscape until recently, when he surfaced playing for F.C. Euro of the PDL in Brooklyn. He also has 20 caps for Puerto Rico. Arrieta is also a coach at Massapequa (New York) Soccer Club.
