Conifers
Conifers have a great deal to offer. Most conifers are evergreen and therefore provide a visual buffer all year round. They also serve as effective windbreaks and hedges, and provide deep shade where needed. The dense green foliage offers excellent shelter and nesting opportunities for birds, throughout the year. Conifers are effective in absorbing fine particulates in the air and provide a cooling effect in cities that suffer from the 'heat island effect'.
Deciduous conifers such as the many Ginkgo biloba varieties, Taxodium distichum and Metasequoia glyptostroboides produce stunning autumn colours.
