I grabbed this Dawn Redwood from a local nursery.... before doing any research... and now I'm swimming in regret (I think).

Although the tree has an exciting start on taper, movement, and it sits atop a pretty good base, apparently this dwarf cultivar (with soft variegated leaves) is very slow growing.

Anyone have any experience turning this cultivar of dawn redwood into bonsai?

I'm still working on wiring/pruning as part of my attempt to get some movement and direction into the upper branches.

Feedback appreciated.

Nice find, this cultivar can be expensive. It does look like it's got taper.

I'm just learning about dawn redwoods myself. The normal form seems to grow so fast they are difficult to keep up with. The slower growth may be a benefit.

Sorry I can't offer more, except to say I'd jump on the chance to pick up that cultivar if it was cheap. Nice find.
